Echoes of the beach - Poetry + Acceptance
Sunshine on my body, Sunburns on my cheeks tasting the ice cream’s sweet like the cold drinks that I hold in my hands feels like they’ll freeze and my hair dances with the breeze
A soft beach blanket
turns to soft sand
as I step closer to the waves
Cool water splashes my skin
as I jump in
to the blue ocean
Swimming through
The blue
that, with my goggles, I see
I feel the ripples and waves
with my swimsuit hugging me
The scents of the setting;
saltwater, barbecue,
cold and fruity drinks
embrace me.
Pretty rocks, seashells
and trees
mesmerize me
as I cherish these moments.
The sunshine fades
and soon leaves the day
It gets chilly,
It’s finally time to say goodbye
I’ll come back now and then,
and when I do, this day will replay itself again.

Since summer is coming to an end - and school is starting a lot sooner than I'd like it to (ðŸ˜) - I decided to write a poem about summer. I used to really hate summer (I know, I sound crazy), but now it's my favourite season! I incorporated a lot of rhyme into this poem since it's a poetic device that I like to use. If you couldn't tell, go back and read the poem a little more. There are some opportunities to analyze this poem if that's what you like to do.
I remember when I was brainstorming this poem, I was picturing everything in my mind, and when I put it on paper, I just wrote everything that came to my mind! it was like magic because I could see, and feel my words happening - which is one of the reasons I really love poetry. Before writing this poem, I was looking at these images on Pinterest on how to write a poem. One of the first steps was brainstorming, which I did, and then the whole poem just started forming itself with some help from my pencil. That's when I realized, writing poetry doesn't have to be a process. It's a way to free yourself from the real world, and actually experience your thoughts! However, if some people get the same feeling from following a process, then we should accept it because that's great too. Which brings me to a secondary theme for this poem: acceptance.
At the end of this poem, you can see that I'm basically saying: "I've accepted that this day has come to an end, so I'll leave because I know that when I come back, I'll feel the same way." However, in life, you can't always come back to the same thing - no matter how amazing it was - and expect it to give you the same experience again.
Acceptance is something I, and many other people, can find challenging from time to time. So, I decided to make this poem. At first, when I was writing this poem, I didn't really have this theme on my mind. But as I finished writing it, I realized that maybe this is what my poem was all about.
Moving on, I chose the title "Echoes of the beach," because I loved the way it fit with my poem. It's up for analysis if you'd like - try to find out how the theme Acceptance is tied in with the title. Anyway, I know I wrote a lot in this post, but if you enjoyed this poem, then visit my blog for more poems and content! What's an experience you remember, that you associate a specific feeling with? For example, mine is going to the beach and acceptance. Leave your answers, thoughts, and ideas in the comments below!
